Embark Students
Elijah, Eireann, Hayes, and Jazmin are four students from Embark Education.
Elijah is an 8th grader at Embark Education, who joined last year because "it sounded like a really good experience to make learning not just something that you go to sleep, go to school, come back, do homework. " Elijah says that Embark makes him actually want to learn, and expand his knowledge about things in the world by experiencing vs reading out of a book.
Eireann loves the reading and writing curriculum at Embark. She finds it unique and says "I've really gotten to talk about what I've wanted to write about... [we get to choose] our own books." She says that before Embark she never got the chance to talk 1 on 1 with her teachers or choose what books they read. She loves how in depth the discussions get and the choice involved in her learning.
Hayes is a 7th grader at Embark who went to a traditional school before joining Embark this year and has always had a passion for reading. However, at her old school, she found it boring and uninteresting. Now, she says, "I read because I want to, and it counts for class, and I've improved a lot of my writing skills where last year I was doing things I'd done years ago and repeating things and wasn't learning and wasn't advancing... Now my writing skills are getting better and I'm reading much more than last year... I'm a lot happier here."
Jazmin touches on the community feel at Embark saying, "We really get to connect with everyone and it's just really fun to get to know everyone... we get to know everyone individually so we never feel left out."
